This procedure will recover a TouchMix-30 Pro mixer that no longer starts after attempting to install a firmware update.  Please read through this document prior to starting the recovery process and follow the instructions carefully.  The procedure will take 10-15 minutes. You will need…

        -   Mac or Windows computer with internet access.

        -   USB Thumb Drive, 4GB or larger.

  • FOR BEST RESULTS use a name brand drive.  Not all USB drives have adequate READ/WRITE speeds which may hinder the recovery process.
  • DO NOT use a drive that was previously formatted for LINUX.
  • DO NOT use a drive that contains multiple partitions (that is, a single physical drive that shows up on your computer as two or more logical drives).
  • DO NOT load the TouchMix firmware file on this drive.

There are four steps to the process:

  1. Downloading and extracting the recovery files.
  2. Formatting a USB recovery drive.
  3. Loading the recovery files to the drive.
  4. Recovering the mixer.

Download and Extract Recovery File

  1. Download the TouchMix-30 Pro Updater Recovery zip file and save it to the desktop of your computer.
  2. Right-click on the zip file and select EXTRACT ALL.

NOTE: extraction options may be different on your machine.
  3. Select your desktop as the destination for the extraction.
  4. The extracted folder titled “tm30-recovery” should now reside on the computer desktop.

Format USB Drive

  1. -The drive must be freshly formatted and cannot contain other files.
  2. Insert the USB thumb drive that is to be used as the RECOVERY DRIVE in to a USB port on your computer.

NOTE: if the drive was previously formatted for Linux, DO NOT USE THIS DRIVE.
  3. Right-Click on the USB thumb drive and click FORMAT.
  4. Select FAT32 under File System.
  5. Click START to format the drive.
  6. Click OK to acknowledge the warning regarding the loss of data during the formatting process.
  7. Click OK to confirm the completion of the format process.
  8. DRIVE FORMAT CONFIRMATION: Right-Click on USB Drive and click on Properties to verify following:
    ---File System = FAT32
---Capacity = roughly the same as the specified drive size.

Load Recovery Files

  1. Open the previously extracted “tm30-recovery” file.

NOTE: if the file still has the .zip extension, please follow the extraction process prior to opening.
  2. Select all the file content and drag the selected files to the RECOVERY DRIVE.
  3. EJECT the RECOVERY DRIVE from the computer: Right-Click on the drive name and select EJECT.  Windows will notify you that the drive is safe to remove.
  4. Remove the RECOVERY DRIVE from the computer.

Recover the Mixer

  1. Disconnect AC power from the mixer.
  2. Insert the RECOVERY DRIVE into the center-most USB port (the port closest to the XLR connectors on the rear panel).
  3. Connect the mixer to AC power.

NOTE: the mixer’s blue LED ring around the master encoder will flash 2-3 times shortly after power-up. If this does not occur, the mixer does not recognize the contents on the drive. Please double check the drive format and extraction process.
  4. Once the mixer HOME Page with the faders is visible on the LCD, REMOVE the RECOVERY USB DRIVE, wait 5 seconds, and then RE-INSERT the RECOVERY USB DRIVE into the same USB port on the TM-30.
  5. The mixer will display the message “Mixer Upgrade files detected. Install now?” Touch “Yes”.
  6. The mixer will display the message “Installing V1.0.6863-recovery.install to filesystem-upgrade” Touch “OK”

NOTE: the mixer will show little to no activity for roughly 2-3 minutes during this step until the next message appears on the LCD screen. This is expected. Do not interfere.
  7. The mixer will display the message “Error 32 writing V1.0.6863-recovery.install to file system-upgrade”. Touch “OK”

NOTE: this error is expected and signals that the installation is successful.
  8. The recovery procedure is now complete.
